I posted this quote above a few months ago and it has been re-blogged almost 5000 times since.  There is a reason.  This quote is pure truth.  I say this to myself almost daily.  A year from now, you will wish you had started today.  Things I am so glad I started a year ago:  grabbing life by the horns, blogging consistently, owning challenges, and - among a million things - I’m so grateful I started leaning on God to guide me through so many transitions when I felt overwhelmed x infinity.  In the last year, I’ve learned more from my “failures” than anything.  I would not trade them for the world.  Risk is worth it.  Trying something new is worth it.  You just never know when simply starting something will change your life forever.   It was just a year and a half ago that this whole Making Things Happen journey started!  What if I never hit publish?  What if I never took that giant risk to plan the first 13 city tour?  What if I never got to Watercolor for the first workshop and never met Gina or Emily? A crazy idea took me to making an outline, writing a blog post that I was petrified to publish (seriously, I had about a dozen people read over it and almost deleted it twice) and then getting such a strong response that I decided to get out of my office and show people how to make things happen.  27 cities later and almost 500 alum, I’m so glad I did something about that crazy little idea in my head.  Sometimes, planting the tiniest seeds can lead to the biggest successes.  Plant those seeds deep today.  Plant what matters.  Do not take no for an answer.  Give yourself permission to risk.  You hold the reins on your life and you can choose to really live it OR…  don’t even think of the alternatives.  Anything other than using your full potential, loving deeply, giving fully, making mistakes and finding joy in the journey through them, doing the hard thing - that thing you’ve been fearing but you know you need to just do - anything other than what’s at your core is just not worth it.  Do. Not. Settle.  You were created for greatness.  Period. Do you really think you were put on this earth just to “get by”?  No way.   So, what are you starting today?  Don’t just think about it.  Tell me.  Then, do something about it.  - Lara

Nothing Human Can Be Alien To Me

“I’d like everybody to think of a statement by Terence. The statement is ‘I am a human being, nothing human can be alien to me.’

If a human being dreams a great dream, dares to love somebody, if a human being dares to be Martin King, or Mahatma Gandhi, or Mother Teresa, or Malcolm X. If a human being dares to be bigger than the condition into which she or he was born, it means so can you. And so you can try to stretch. Stretch. Stretch yourself. So you can internalize ‘I am a human being, nothing human can be alien to me.’ That’s one thing I’m learning.” - Maya Angelou

October. Usually on my birthday I tend to get emotional because I have so many expectations that always seem to fall short. I think about what I have accomplished since my last birthday. This birthday was no different. I cried right before going to dinner with some of the closest people in my…

“In 20 years you’ll look back at photos of yourself and recall how much POSSIBILITY lay before you and how fabulous you really looked.”

“If you’re making a good living, then I’m really happy for you. But if you can’t be humble about your success, none of your accomplishments are going to matter. Just saying.” —My two cents

“How I think one masters one’s life, is to understand that you are co-creating that life with the ultimate creator. Not understanding that puts you at your own pitiful, meager, little will. And everything is left up to you. And you can’t do it. You cannot survive in this world by yourself, just believing in yourself. You’re not big enough to do it. I’m not big enough to do it. Nobody is big enough to do it. You have to understand that your very presence here as a human being on earth came from something greater than you…The fact that I’m here, matters. The fact that you’re there, matters. This is no accident. NONE OF US ARE.”-O.W.

“The irony of commitment is that it’s deeply liberating- in work, in plan, and in love. The act frees you from the tyranny of your internal critic; from the fear that likes to dress itself up and parade around as rational hesitation. To commit is to remove your head as the barrier to your life.” —My Starbucks cup
“The only way to do great work, is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it.” —Steve Jobs
